Dr. Innocent Nkonwa, the Luweero District Health Officer explains that they dispatched a team to the industrial park after staff intimated that the Chinese National who arrived in country three days ago had developed symptoms similar to those of corona virus patients but the administrators had concealed the case.
Luweero district has dispatched health surveillance team and Policemen to investigate two suspected corona virus cases. One of the suspects is a Chinese national working at the Chinese Agricultural Industrial park, which is found at the border of Luweero and Nakasongola district.
The other suspect is believed to be Ugandan who arrived in Zirobwe town on Thursday from Rwanda. Dr. Innocent Nkonwa, the Luweero District Health Officer explains that they dispatched a team to the industrial park after staff intimated that the Chinese National who arrived in country three days ago had developed symptoms similar to those of corona virus patients but the administrators had concealed the case.
He says the second suspect arrived from Rwanda but his relatives got concerned about his health status after failing to show a medical report showing that he was screened and cleared to enter Uganda. According to Dr. Nkonwa, residents called Zirobwe Police Station to investigate the matter and ensure the suspect is screened before he is accepted back at home.
He says the Health Ministry has been notified about both cases, saying surveillance teams are still on ground compiling epidemiology reports to decide their next course of action. It is alleged that the suspected case from Rwanda was grabbed by relatives and handed over to Zirobwe Police Station, which isolated him before notifying health authorities.
Isah Semwogerere, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, says a team of police officers deployed at the Chinese Park to ensure investigations are done smoothly as well as ensure the directives from President, Yoweri Museveni and Health Ministry are enforced.
According to Health Ministry, people returning from high risk countries are expected to self-quarantine for 14 days to rule out infection. On Wednesday evening, Museveni also banned all out-bound movement by Ugandans to or through the high risk countries for 32 days.
He said foreigners going to those countries are free to do so provided they do not intend to return within the prohibited time. The corona virus pandemic has already claimed over 8000 people and affected over 200,000 others around the world.
