dfcu Bank’s *240# USSD Brings Banking to Every Corner of Ug

dfcu Bank has enhanced its *240# USSD mobile banking platform, aiming to make banking more accessible to every Ugandan, regardless of internet connectivity. The upgrade is part of the bank’s wider financial inclusion strategy, targeting rural and underserved communities through simple, reliable technology.

According to Isaac Bigirwa, Head of Cards and Payments at dfcu Bank, customer feedback drove the redesign. “People wanted faster, more cost-effective access, fewer steps, better features, and greater reliability. We listened,” he explained.

With a quick dial of *240#, customers can check balances, transfer money, apply for loans, pay bills, and even open accounts—using any type of mobile phone. The service eliminates the need for internet access or smartphone apps, addressing a key barrier to financial access in remote areas.

The upgraded platform features:

  • Simplified navigation with fewer steps per transaction.
  • Multi-language support in English, Luo, Lugbara, Lunyakitara, and Luganda.
  • Free access without airtime or data charges.
  • New services like float purchases and cross-currency transfers.

dfcu Bank is positioning *240# as a solution for farmers, traders, small business owners, and mobile-first users with limited digital literacy. The service offers 24/7 access, lower transaction costs, and reduces the need for branch visits.

Security remains a top priority, with PIN-protected transactions, industry-standard encryption, and safeguards like SIM swap detection. “All transactions are PIN-protected, and we monitor the system for any suspicious activity,” Bigirwa confirmed.

By removing connectivity barriers, dfcu Bank’s *240# USSD is empowering more Ugandans to manage their finances independently—anytime, anywhere.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPP-28fPhdg
