Museveni Winds Up Campaigns in Bukedi With a Bang

President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM presidential candidate, wrapped up his campaign in Bukedi on Saturday with a lively and energetic address. Upon arriving at Masafu Primary School, a vast crowd of NRM supporters greeted him, filling the venue with yellow, the party’s color. The excitement was palpable, reflecting the strength of NRM’s presence in the region.

Reflecting on the past, Museveni reminded the crowd of the challenges they once faced, especially the insurgencies led by FOBA and Alice Lakwena that destabilized Bukedi. However, he emphasized that these times of insecurity are now over. “NRM has brought peace to the whole country. This peace is not by accident but by our politics, which promotes unity and rejects tribal and religious sectarianism,” he said, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Museveni Highlights Key Achievements in Busia

Moving on to development, Museveni highlighted major infrastructure progress in Busia. “We repaired roads from Jinja through Bugiri to the border, and constructed the Musita-Namayingo-Lumino road, also extending to the border. We are now working on the road to Tororo and are repairing the railway,” he explained. These efforts are aimed at enhancing transport and connectivity within the region.

Moreover, Museveni pointed to advancements in electricity access. “Now, every sub-county has power. First, the district headquarters received electricity, and now it extends to the lower administrative units,” he added. This expansion of the power grid is critical for improving the quality of life and boosting local businesses.

In education, Museveni proudly noted the government’s progress. “We now have 24 government primary schools and 14 secondary schools across the district. We plan to build a primary school in every parish and a secondary school in every sub-county,” he said.

Improved Healthcare Services

Turning to healthcare, Museveni mentioned that Busia’s 20 sub-counties are served by a hospital, one Health Centre IV, and 14 Health Centre IIIs. Although some areas are still without healthcare facilities, he outlined plans to upgrade certain centers. “We will upgrade Hasyule Health Centre II in Lumino, Namungodi Health Centre II, and Tiira Health Centre II to Health Centre IIIs. Additionally, a new Health Centre III will be built in Masafu Sub-county,” he stated.

Regional Integration and Economic Growth

With stability now in place, Museveni emphasized the importance of regional integration. “We now produce surplus goods such as sugar, milk, cement, and bananas. The key issue now is securing markets for these products,” he said. He urged residents, especially those near Kenya, to engage in conversations about the need for greater regional integration and a common market.

Recalling past collaborations with Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi and Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Museveni reaffirmed the importance of regional cooperation. He called on the younger generation to take charge of promoting East African integration to ensure long-term economic growth.

“Politics is about the future—how we will live in this country. NRM stands for peace, development, wealth creation, jobs, and integration. Vote NRM to continue on this journey,” Museveni concluded.
