Renowned Ugandan comedian Patrick Salvador Idringi has expressed his views on Generation Z (Gen Z), describing them as overly impulsive and lacking critical reflection on their actions.
Speaking during an interview, Salvador, 39, addressed the increasing trend of young people using social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to voice grievances about corruption in Uganda.
He referenced the 2022 protests in which many youths participated in a march to Parliament, denouncing what they described as widespread corruption within government institutions.
Salvador claimed that these young protesters were being influenced by activists he accused of receiving financial backing to push anti-government agendas. According to him, the youth fail to recognize these activists’ ulterior motives, often leading to their arrests while the activists remain unaffected and continue to benefit from external financial support.
“Gen Z is reactionary. They don’t think. That’s the truth. They don’t reason, and I’m not insulting them—it’s just their nature. They follow the hype,” Salvador remarked.
He added, “These activists deliberately target Gen Z because millennials like us can see through their deception.”
Salvador went on to criticize activists for prioritizing financial gain under the guise of fighting corruption. “We all know corruption is rampant in this country. However, the intentions of these activists are questionable. They aren’t fighting corruption for genuine reasons—they’re doing it to maintain their funding,” he stated.
Salvador concluded his remarks by praising Dr. Kizza Besigye as Uganda’s only truly committed activist. “The only genuinely dedicated activist Uganda has seen is Dr. Kizza Besigye,” Salvador said, referring to Besigye’s ongoing legal battles, including charges of treachery.
