Police have launched an investigation into claims that security operatives are abducting civilians and forcing them to pose with machetes to link them to criminal activities.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The accusations surfaced in videos and audios shared by comedian Sammy Okanya. In the recordings, a male and female voice claim that unmarked private vehicles frequently roam Buddo and Kyengera, where plainclothes operatives abduct locals.
According to the recordings, victims are taken to Nakasozi Police Post, where they are allegedly forced to hold machetes for staged photos. Those who refuse reportedly face severe beatings inside the station.
The viral videos have urged the public to remain cautious and take action against Nakasozi Police Post.
Police Dismiss Allegations as Possible Fabrication
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke acknowledged the claims but warned that the videos could be a deliberate attempt to spread falsehoods.
“We don’t take this lightly,” Rusoke stated. “This could be a politically motivated scheme or an organized attempt to create fear.”
He added that Nakasozi Police Post is currently under renovation, making the allegations questionable. Local authorities in the area have also stated that they are unaware of any such incidents or the individuals making the claims.
Police Suspect Social Media Stunt
Rusoke strongly suspects that the videos are fabricated by individuals seeking social media attention.
“Some people use security-related content to gain followers. If these claims turn out to be false, we will take action against those involved,” he warned.
He emphasized that false security allegations are serious and can have legal consequences.
“We will investigate thoroughly. If this is an attempt to create panic, those responsible will face consequences,” Rusoke concluded.
