Uganda Teams Up with Hollywood to Boost Creative Economy and Global Influence

The Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) has announced a new partnership. Additionally, it joins forces with Ryder Media and the Private Office of Chief Nana Dakrabo I. Together, they will produce major film projects in Uganda.

This collaboration begins with a high-impact docuseries. Specifically, the series will highlight Uganda’s history, transformation, and cultural richness. Moreover, it aligns with PACEID’s mission. The committee aims to position Uganda as a leader in organic agricultural exports. Furthermore, it seeks to promote the country as a top-tier tourism destination and a global hub for creative industries.

Additionally, this initiative marks a significant step forward. It aims to establish Uganda’s creative economy as a major export sector. Under President Museveni’s vision, PACEID identifies film and media as key industries. Consequently, these sectors can drive economic growth, create jobs, and promote Uganda’s heritage globally.

The goal is to contribute to Uganda’s ambitious export targets. By 2028, the country aims to reach $6 billion in exports. Similarly, by 2062, it hopes to achieve $100 billion.

Odrek Rwabwogo, Chairman of PACEID, emphasized the importance of this effort. He stated, “Uganda is experiencing unprecedented growth. Therefore, it is crucial that the world sees the incredible opportunities we offer.” However, he noted that this partnership goes beyond filmmaking. Instead, it focuses on elevating Uganda’s presence in international markets. Additionally, it attracts investment and makes the creative sector a pillar of the export economy.

Through film exports, Uganda plans to share its culture, talent, and identity with the world. JoJo Ryder, a renowned Hollywood creator and executive producer, will lead the production. His past works include American Heist , Talks with Mama Tina , and A Little White Lie . As a result, these projects have earned him Daytime Emmy and Oscar nominations.

Ryder visited Uganda in January 2025. During his trip, he engaged with local leaders and explored historical sites. Furthermore, he captured visuals for the upcoming series. Reflecting on his experience, he said, “Uganda’s people, culture, and economic potential are extraordinary. Their story deserves global attention.” Additionally, he added, “The energy and momentum here are undeniable. This is a country ready to make waves in global media and entertainment.”

Ryder expressed pride in partnering with PACEID and Chief Nana Dakrabo I. He stated, “We’re committed to establishing Uganda as a creative hub in Africa. Our goal is to showcase its unique appeal to the world.”

This partnership combines Uganda’s governmental efforts with Hollywood’s storytelling expertise. Consequently, as filming begins, the project is expected to attract foreign investment. It will also strengthen trade relations and solidify Uganda’s place in the global media industry.

Ultimately, through this collaboration, Uganda aims to grow its creative economy. At the same time, it seeks to inspire international recognition of its vibrant culture and untapped potential.
