The UPDF Air Force graduates marked a turning point in Uganda’s military aviation history as more than 500 officers completed their training at the Uganda Air Force College. The group included pilots, flight instructors, and aerospace engineers, all trained to enhance Uganda’s national security and regional peace efforts. This graduation reflects years of investment in human capital and military modernization.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, presided over the ceremony. He praised the UPDF Air Force for its remarkable transformation. Once considered modest in capability, Uganda’s air wing is now among the most advanced and respected in Africa. According to General Muhoozi, the graduates represent a new chapter in Uganda’s defence strategy, driven by training excellence and unwavering discipline.
In his address, General Muhoozi emphasized that these officers are more than technical experts. He described them as a new generation prepared to safeguard Uganda’s airspace and support peace in the broader region. Their training, he noted, will allow them to handle complex missions both at home and abroad. The Air Force’s growth, he added, mirrors Uganda’s broader ambitions for strategic security influence across East Africa and beyond.
The event also featured the unveiling of new infrastructure at the Air Force College. These facilities are designed to expand training capacity and improve living conditions for students and instructors. General Muhoozi called this investment a necessary step toward building a professional and self-reliant force. He noted that strong institutions require not just skilled people, but the right environment to support them.
During the ceremony, the General delivered a strong message on integrity. He warned against corruption within the military ranks, calling it a direct threat to Uganda’s progress and the credibility of its defence forces. He made it clear that discipline and patriotism are non-negotiable pillars of the UPDF. Any attempts to exploit the system for personal gain, he said, would be met with firm action.
The UPDF Air Force graduates are expected to play a vital role in strengthening Uganda’s aerial capabilities. Many will be deployed in various regional operations, including United Nations peacekeeping missions and bilateral security collaborations. These officers will also support disaster response efforts and contribute to anti-terror and surveillance missions. As such, they are key to Uganda’s commitment to regional peace and internal stability.
This graduation underscores the growing strategic importance of Uganda’s air power. It shows a shift toward a more self-sustaining and modern military that values not only technology but also integrity and service. As the UPDF continues to evolve, the Air Force stands out as a symbol of progress, discipline, and national pride.
