Jackline Kaitesi, a resident of Namugongo town council in Wakiso district was arrested at Entebbe International Airport by immigration officers on her way to Dubai to work as a security guard.
Kaitesi told immigration officers at the airport that she was 31 years as it was indicated on her passport. However, her appearance did not match her age, forcing the immigration officer to ask for her national identity card.
The national identity card revealed that she was born on December 1, 1980, which makes her 40 years and not 31.
Kaitesi informed magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu that it was an employee of Middle East Consultants a one Nicholas Twinomugisha who changed her age after she had paid him to help her process a passport.
Kaitesi was charged with unlawful alteration of a passport contrary to section 48[3] of the Uganda citizenship and immigration control act.
It’s alleged that Kaitesi and others still at large during the year 2017 in Kampala unlawfully changed the dates of birth in her passport from December 12, 1980, to December 12, 1989.
Kaitesi pleaded for leniency saying that she is a mother of two children aged 12 and 16 years. The children are currently living with her grandparents in Ibanda.
Magistrate Kamasanyu said that although she had pleaded guilty and not wasted court’s time and also appears remorse the offence she committed is on the rise and a fine of sh200, 000 is appropriate for her to act as a lesson never to repeat it.
