Defilement suspect tests positive for COVID-19 in Kawempe

A male juvenile, 15, who was arrested and detained at Kawempe over defilement of a three-year-old girl, has tested positive for COVID-19, police have said.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, in his statement, says the suspect was arrested from Bwaise, a Kampala city suburb in Kawempe Division.

He added that the investigations into the alleged defilement were concluded and the suspect was produced to Nabweru court and was remanded to Naguru remand home.

“Before he was taken there, the officials demanded COVID-19 negative certificate which compelled Police to subject him to a test and the results came back positive,” said Onyango.

Police say they are now making arrangements to have him transferred to Entebbe Grade B hospital for treatment.

“They reached out to the Ministry of Health to ensure that all staff, family members, and all other suspects in custody are tested for COVID-19,” added Police.

In addition, Kawempe Police Station including the barracks shall be disinfected starting on Thursday, this week.

“We appeal to the members of the public who want Police services or have cases to register, to go to the nearest police station within their localities under Kawempe,” said Onyango.
