Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, DRC Generals Discuss Regional Security in New Talks

Kampala, UgandaGen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, today held a key meeting with senior officers from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) to discuss ongoing security operations in eastern DRC.

The discussions, held at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters, focused on strengthening the progress of Operation Shujaa, a joint military campaign targeting ADF terrorist groups operating in the volatile eastern region of the Congo.

The visiting FARDC delegation included Maj Gen Nyembo Abdallah, commander of the Ituri sector, Maj Gen Mandevu Bruno, commander of the North Kivu sector, and other senior officers.

Strengthening Regional Collaboration

Gen Kainerugaba praised the strong spirit of cooperation shown by FARDC and emphasized Uganda’s firm commitment to maintaining close military collaboration with Congo to enhance long-term regional peace and security.

He acknowledged the vital role of Operation Shujaa in stabilizing affected areas, enabling displaced civilians to return to their homes and revive their livelihoods through farming and commerce.

Back in Uganda, the joint efforts have notably weakened the ADF’s operational capabilities, although small remnants of the rebel group remain in hiding within the forests.

Broader Diplomatic Engagement

Today’s meeting follows Gen Kainerugaba’s recent talks with leaders of the CODECO rebel group, reinforcing Uganda’s dual strategy of diplomatic engagement and military cooperation to foster stability in the Great Lakes region.

The talks were attended by other high-ranking Ugandan military officials, including Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of the UPDF Land Forces, among others.

Uganda’s continued coordination with DRC authorities reflects a broader regional approach to counterterrorism, security enhancement, and peace-building efforts across central Africa.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMgnhUZEGAE
