NRM Embarks on Final Phase of Membership Register Update Across Uganda

As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) gears up for the final phase of its membership register display and update, party officials have begun dispatching registration materials to villages across the country. This critical exercise, set to begin on Wednesday, is part of the party’s broader efforts to ensure an updated and accurate register ahead of upcoming primary elections.

Distribution of Registration Materials

On Monday, the NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja, launched the dispatch of registration kits from the 151 NRM electoral districts to all villages. At Wakiso District headquarters, she officially handed over registration materials, including register books, to village registrars. Namayanja urged the registrars to ensure that all villages receive their kits by Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of timely and secure delivery.

“We entrust these kits to you and expect you to take full responsibility for their security,” she stated.

Safeguarding the Process Against Corruption

Namayanja issued a strong warning against corruption or political interference during the exercise. She cautioned registrars against colluding with politicians to manipulate the register, such as including opposition supporters with the intention of disrupting the primary elections.

“Anyone found tampering with the register will face arrest,” she said firmly.

Engaging the Youth for a Stronger Party

Namayanja also emphasized the importance of mobilizing the youth to join the NRM. She encouraged registrars to target individuals aged 16 and above, urging them to register as party members.

“We need young people to join the NRM. This is how we will remain strong and dominant, like revolutionary political parties such as the ANC in South Africa and Chama Cha Mapinduzi in Tanzania,” she added.

Leadership and Witnesses

The event at Wakiso District was attended by prominent officials, including Wakiso District Chairman Abdul Kiyemba, Resident District Commissioner Justine Mbabazi, and members of the District Executive Committee (DEC). Their presence underscored the significance of this exercise in solidifying the party’s grassroots support.
