Mityana—Supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP), led by the Youth Mobilizer Susan Namara, warmly welcomed the party president, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu. Kyagulanyi, was in the district to evaluate the progress of the people power Kunga Uganda initiative that’s aimed at empowering young people to advocate for change and democratic reforms in Uganda.

At their meeting with Hon Kyagulanyi, the youth shared the challenges they face in their efforts to rally support for the opposition, and among the major challenges is what they described as persistent police interference. According to the youth, the security forces regularly disrupt their meetings and other mobilization efforts, undermining their ability to engage with the masses effectively.
“This is a way to scare us,” the youths explained. “The police are always in our way, no matter how lawful and peaceful our arrangements are.”
Kyagulanyi in his address encouraged the youth to remain resilient in the face of these obstacles, emphasizing that such actions are deliberate attempts by the government to suffocate their movement. “These are tactics meant to intimidate you and kill your spirit,” Kyagulanyi said. “But never lose hope. The fight for freedom continues, and we will win. Museveni’s era of aristocracy and dictatorship will come to an end.”
Susan Namara, the youth mobilizer in Mityana, unveiled a strategic plan aimed at mobilizing greater youth participation in the campaign for change. She highlighted plans to expand their efforts to Mityana and other neighboring areas, ensuring the party’s message resonates across the region.
“We are committed to mobilizing the youth and empowering them to stand up for their freedoms,” Namara said. “This initiative will solidify our base in Mityana and spread the message of change to nearby districts.”The Kunga Uganda initiative has gained significant traction in various parts of the country, despite the reported challenges. NUP leaders continue to emphasize its importance as a grassroots movement to inspire civic engagement and political awareness among Uganda’s youth.Kyagulanyi’s visit comes amid growing tensions between opposition groups and the state, with calls for free and fair elections at the heart of the political discourse. As the 2021 general elections approach, the NUP remains steadfast in its efforts to galvanize the youth, a demographic widely regarded as the driving force behind Uganda’s push for democratic change.
