Police in Kasangati have opened an investigation after Fatumah Bbuye found dead inside her Wampeewo residence. The 47-year-old State Attorney worked at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) headquarters in Kampala.
Investigators say they discovered her body on the evening of Thursday, July 10, 2025. Hamuza Kabanda, a DPP driver, reported the case at Kasangati Police Station around 8:36 p.m. after becoming concerned about her absence from work.
Fatumah hadn’t shown up to the office for four days. She lived alone, which made it harder for anyone to detect her disappearance quickly. Concerned by the lack of communication, Kabanda went to check on her.
A team of detectives, led by the Division Police Commander, visited the scene and searched the home. They collected several items they believe could help the investigation.
Police transported her body to the City Mortuary for a postmortem. Authorities say the examination will determine the cause of death. So far, they haven’t confirmed any foul play.
“We are investigating a case of sudden death. A postmortem will help us determine the exact cause. At this point, we cannot speculate,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Colleagues at the DPP’s office described Fatumah as a dedicated and professional attorney. Many expressed shock over her sudden death. She had worked with the Directorate for several years and maintained a low profile.
Detectives are now reviewing her phone records and seeking any available security footage. They also plan to interview neighbors to understand her last known movements. Police are urging anyone with helpful information to come forward.
Residents in Wampeewo expressed disbelief. Several admitted they hadn’t seen her in recent days but assumed she had traveled for work. The neighborhood is usually peaceful, which makes this incident even more alarming to locals.
Government officials said they would support Fatumah’s family during this time. The DPP’s office also confirmed it would cooperate fully with the police investigation.
Ugandan authorities continue to express concern over unexplained deaths in residential areas. Police have reminded the public to stay alert and report anything suspicious.
Fatumah’s passing has raised many questions, but the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives remain committed to finding answers and ensuring justice, if necessary. The postmortem results will guide the next steps.
As her colleagues mourn, they also await clarity on what happened. The legal community has lost a respected voice, and many hope the investigation will offer closure.
