The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), in partnership with the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA), officially launched the 2025 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala with a Run/Walk event in Muyenga on Friday evening.
The 2025 gala is themed “Beyond the Finish Line” and features a 30-Day Fitness Challenge, where participants are encouraged to walk 5,000 steps daily for 30 days to earn medals and accumulate points for their institutions. The event began with participant registration, a briefing session, and an energizing Zumba workout before the Chief Walker/Runner flagged off the 3KM, 5KM, and 7KM routes. Participants demonstrated remarkable teamwork and enthusiasm as they completed the course.
In her remarks, Mrs. Goretti Masadde, CEO of UIBFS, emphasized the importance of wellness and collaboration in the financial sector:
“This gala is not just about competition. It’s about connecting, celebrating teamwork, and promoting wellness. While we work hard to keep our sector strong, we must also take care of ourselves.”
Mr. Wilbord Owor, Executive Director of UBA, expressed the Association’s continued support for the event:
“This initiative is crucial for the well-being of industry staff. UBA is committed to partnering with UIBFS to ensure the sustainability of this gala year after year.”
Mr. Michael K. Mugabi, Chair of UIBFS, praised the innovation behind the theme:
“‘Beyond the Finish Line’ reflects endurance and determination. Just like in our sector, it’s not only about crossing the line—it’s about pushing ourselves, supporting each other, and embracing wellness as a lifestyle.”
The event also saw the launch of a Sports Gala App, allowing banks and their staff to track daily steps and monitor the various sports activities scheduled throughout the gala.
The 2025 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala will run from September 5 to October 19, featuring a variety of indoor and outdoor sports, including swimming, quizzes, and the CEO/ExCo Golf Tournament.
Participating institutions include Bank of Uganda, ABSA Bank, Centenary Bank, Equity Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and many more.
