Uganda Prisons Service has halted routine visits to inmates in its facilities as part of the preventive measures against Corona Virus alias COVID-19.
Margret Orik, the Northern Region Prisons Commander disclosed this to URN an interview on Thursday. She explained that the top Uganda Prison Services leadership has resolved to suspend the visits in an emergency meeting held on Wednesday.
Orik explained that the suspension takes effective on Friday March 20th, 2020 until further notices. She disclosed that she had relayed the decision in all prison facilities under her command.

She also said that they are promoting hand washing with soap among in prison wards and quarters to prevent corona infection.

Orik briefed the Gulu District Security Committee meeting on the guidelines the Gulu Resident District Commissioner’s boardroom.
Speaking at the same meeting, the Gulu Resident District Commission, Maj. Santos Okot Lapolo appealed to all the stakeholders and general public to comply with 12 directives issued by President Museveni to prevent COVID -19.
She vowed to deal with any institution that fails to comply with the president’s directive.
Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the Gulu District LC V Chairperson revealed that movements in all markets within the district shall be restricted. He also said they provide hand washing equipment all all entrances of markets.
