Uganda’s senior men’s cricket team, the Cricket Cranes, have concluded a 12-day residential training camp in Jinja, intensifying their preparations for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The 17-man squad, which includes both local talent and overseas-based players, was put through rigorous training under the guidance of head coach Abhay Sharma, assisted by Jackson Ogwang. The training took place at various venues in Jinja, each designed to meet specific team needs. The Jinja SSS Oval hosted skill drills and match simulations, Hared Fitness Gym focused on strength and conditioning, while Paradise Hotel provided swimming, ice baths, and recovery facilities. Jinja Backpackers served as the base for accommodation and team bonding.
Behind the scenes, Team Manager Charles Waiswa, S&C Coach Emmanuella Oroma, Physio Japheth Ndawula Juuko, and Convener of Selectors Nehal Bibodi ensured the smooth running of the camp. Juuko’s consistent work kept the squad injury-free, ensuring the players were in peak condition before their upcoming competitive schedule.
The team participated in five high-tempo practice matches during the camp, with standout performances from Captain Riazat Ali Shah, left-arm spinner Henry Ssenyondo, and new players Gaurav Tomer and Sumeet Verma.
