This year’s NSSF Kampala Hash Seven Hills Run is the latest to join the growing list of postponed activities across the globe due to the rampaging Coronavirus pandemic.
The annual charity 21km run was scheduled for March 29 starting at the Pearl of Africa School in Nsambya before traversing the original 7 hills of Kampala namely: Nsambya, Nakasero, Old Kampala, Kibuli, Namirembe, Lubaga, and Lubiri.
But a statement from NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba on Wednesday, expressed regret to the sponsors and all the people that were looking forward to the run but promising that it would be held later.
“We regret to announce the postponement of the 5the edition of the NSSF Kampala Hash Seven Hills Run, a charity event aimed at mobilizing funds for the improving learning conditions in public schools,” Byarugaba stated.
“The safety of our participants, partners, suppliers and staff is a top priority. The run is characterized by a mass gathering. The decision to postpone the run is a precaution in view of the Coronavirus epidemic that has spread to most of Uganda’s neighboring countries.
“We are indebted to our esteemed partners and individual participants who have contributed generously towards the success of this noble cause to improve learning conditions in public schools. You are front runners,” Byarugaba stated.
Since 2016 when NSSF partnered with KCCA several schools like St.Pontiano Kyamula, Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped, Nakivubo Settlement and Makerere University Primary Schools had benefited from the proceeds of the run.
Proceeds from this year’s run will go to improving facilities at Munyonyo Primary School, St. Paul Nsambya, Adwari Primary School in Otuke District and Pioneer Primary School in Soroti.
