Egypt and Mozambique have secured the two qualifying places for the next phase of Olympics qualifiers after finishing first and second respectively in the CAVB Continental Cup Group D women’s Olympics qualifiers at White Sand Beach, Entebbe.
The two nations were by far the better teams, while Uganda, Guinea and Zimbabwe could only play a supporting role as the others brought the style and fight.
Of the two top teams, Egypt had the balance and height, while Mozambique had quite the style.
Uganda on the other hand were wiped off the court by Egypt in both matches bringing into focus the need for better preparations.
“We have played against the toughest teams on the continent, which has not been so easy for us considering the kind of training these teams have” Uganda captain Joan Nabutto said.
She admitted they could only prepare for one day before the tournament started.
“We trained for only one day and I would say we didn’t have enough funds to facilitate out training. I can’t say we really did a good job but what we have achieved as a team should show our Federation and the country at large that we need to put a lot more in this sport because it’s a very good sport,” she implored.
