Kenyan lawmaker shot dead: A tragic incident occurred in Nairobi on Wednesday night when Charles Were, a member of Kenya’s opposition, was shot dead by gunmen on motorcycles. Two gunmen trailed Were on a motorbike before one of them got off and shot the lawmaker at close range.

Citizen TV reported that Were’s driver survived the attack. The MP was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Charles Were represented the Kasipul constituency in Kenya’s western region and was a member of the opposition ODM party, led by veteran politician Raila Odinga. Odinga had lost to William Ruto in the 2022 election but rejected the results, alleging electoral irregularities. Despite this, Odinga and Ruto have since come to an agreement to address Kenya’s political issues.
The assassination of Charles Were raises further concerns about political violence in the country, especially among opposition members.
