Mystery Surrounds Death of Martha Ahumuza Murari at Kampala Nightclub

Mystery continues to surround the death of 23-year-old Martha Ahumuza Murari, who collapsed during a night out with friends at Mezo Noir, a popular nightclub in Kampala’s upscale Kololo suburb. Doctors at Kampala Hospital later pronounced her dead on Thursday morning.

Her family buried her in Mbarara District but still seeks answers. They say they have not received an official explanation about what caused her sudden death.

“We’re still waiting for the police report. She went to visit a friend and collapsed,” said her father, Mr. Seth Murari. He shared that doctors discovered a crack in her skull, which caused internal bleeding in her brain. “By the time she reached the hospital, her brain had stopped functioning, though her heart still beat,” he explained.

Mr. Murari urged the public to avoid spreading false information online. “We lost our daughter in a tragic and painful way. It’s devastating when people use her death for likes, comments, and money,” he said. “If you can’t show humanity during a tragedy like this, when will you?”

Social media platforms have circulated various unverified claims, including allegations of poisoning. However, the family has refuted such speculation.

Mr. Brian Kambaho, Martha’s cousin, said she died due to internal bleeding in the brain. A friend alerted him at 5 a.m., and he rushed to the nightclub before heading to Kampala Hospital, where he signed in as her next of kin. “The doctors explained that scans revealed severe bleeding inside her brain. That’s what killed her,” he said during the funeral service at All Saints Church in Nakasero.

Mourners from various sectors—including local government, security forces, and the central government—attended the service to pay their respects.

Police Investigations Continue
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Mr. Patrick Onyango confirmed that police forensic pathologists performed a postmortem. Experts from the Government Analytical Laboratory also collected organ samples for further testing, but they have yet to release the results.

“We informed the family and advised them to proceed with the burial as we wait for the final report,” Onyango said. He added that police arrested four suspects connected to the case. “We plan to release the two minors on bond and continue holding the two main suspects as investigations progress,” he noted.

Mr. Onyango did not reveal the specific leads investigators are pursuing.

A Promising Life Cut Short
Martha was born on February 13, 2002, to Mr. Isaiah Berah Murari and Ms. Barbara Kagonyera of Nyarubanga Parish in Mbarara District. She studied at Hillside Naalya and Vienna College before earning a degree in International Business from ISBAT University in 2024.

Her sibling, Enoch Owomugisha, remembered her as an inspiration. “She loved fashion and had a brilliant mind. If something didn’t work out, she quickly thought of a better solution. She once told me, ‘Where happiness is, the devil is also nearby.’ We enjoyed life with her, and then suddenly, she was gone.”

As her family mourns, they continue to demand answers—and justice—for Martha’s mysterious death.
