Obua appoints new Namboole Stadium Board of Directors

State Minister for Sports Hamson Denis Obua expressed ‘overwhelming confidence’ in the team as he unveiled a new Board of Directors for Mandela National Stadium Limited  in Kampala yesterday.
In a press conference at the Ministry of Education & Sports (MOES) headquarters yesterday afternoon, Obua named the board of seven that will be steered by Rosette Lubwama Kebba. The team will take charge of Namboole Stadium for the next three years starting this month.

Other members of the Board are Mustapher Achidri, Godfrey Wamani, Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Lady Captain Anne Abeja, former Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) president Mark Namanya, Veronica Mukyala and Butaleja RDC Jimmy Ebil Segawa. “These are members with a proven record in performance and, we believe, will take Mandela Sports Stadium Limited in a greater direction,” Obua remarked.

Mixture of skills
The minister explained that a number of factors were put in consideration when naming the board. They ranged from regional balance, a mixture of skills, experience and knowledge among others.
“The board of Mandela National Stadium Limited is to provide overall governance of the stadium. It is also in charge of policies and implementation of articles of association,” Obua added.
Constructed in 1997, Mandela National Stadium is the biggest sporting arena in the country and regularly hosts the biggest sports events in Uganda.

The arena is also regularly hired for political, religious, musical and social events when not being used for sport.
Obua also clarified on the authenticity of the land titles for Namboole, saying the ones that had been issued by the Ministry of Lands recently were the valid ones and only a small technical hitch had been blown out of proportion.
