Police at Kira Road Division have launched an investigation into the sudden Dr. Tom Patrick Mugizi death. The 64-year-old lecturer taught at both Victoria University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS). He lived in Kisota Zone, Kikaaya Parish, Nakawa Division, in Kampala District.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident was reported on January 3, 2026. Dr. Mugizi’s sister, Annet Nsasiirwe Runtemu, alerted authorities after failing to reach him by phone since December 31, 2025.

Concerned, she asked a neighbor to check on him. The neighbor found Dr. Mugizi lying dead in his bed, already in a decomposing state.

Officers responded promptly to the scene. They noted that the house was open, yet no property appeared missing. Investigators documented the premises, collected statements from witnesses, and transported the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Preliminary findings suggest Dr. Mugizi had a history of chronic illness. However, police emphasize that the official cause of death will only be determined after the autopsy.

At this stage, authorities have not indicated any suspicion of foul play. The investigation remains ongoing as officials await forensic results.

The academic community has expressed shock over the loss of a respected educator known for his contributions to business and management studies in Uganda. Colleagues described him as dedicated, insightful, and deeply committed to student development.

While the circumstances appear non-criminal, the case highlights the importance of timely welfare checks—especially for elderly individuals living alone. Police encourage neighbors and family members to maintain regular contact during holidays and extended quiet periods.

Updates on the Dr. Tom Patrick Mugizi death are expected once the post-mortem report is finalized. For now, condolences continue to pour in from students, faculty, and professional networks across East Africa.
