State Given One Week to Present Inventory Report in Gen Katumba Wamala Attack Case

In a significant development regarding the case involving the attempted murder of Works Minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala on June 1, 2021, the International Crimes Division of the High Court has granted the state a one-week deadline to submit an inventory report. This decision was prompted by the state attorney’s request for additional time to finalize the inventory report, which includes exhibits related to the case.

The accused individuals, comprising eight defendants, are also facing charges of murdering Gen Katumba’s daughter and driver during the fatal shooting. The trial judge, Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, had previously directed the state to execute the inventory report, and the registrar, Stella Atingu, responded to the state attorney’s request for an extension.

During the virtual court proceedings, the state attorney, Lillian Omara, informed the court that they have obtained additional documentary evidence from the Forensics Department of Police. This evidence will be served to the defense lawyers, who have been absent, within the next two weeks.

The accused, including individuals with aliases such as Imamu Muto and Musiramu, face multiple charges, including belonging to a terrorist organization, murder, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery. Prosecution contends that the accused rendered support to Hussein Lubwama, alias Master, between March 2015 and June 2021.

The group is also implicated in various criminal activities, such as robberies resulting in fatalities and thefts from businesses and individuals. The court documents highlight incidents involving Cheap General Hardware, City Shoppers supermarket, and Denovo bakery, among others.

The case will resume on May 22, providing an opportunity for the state to present the inventory report and for further proceedings to take place.
