Suspects Isabirye Umar (20) and Matende Isa (23), who were arrested over alleged social media impersonation and online fraud, are expected to appear before Buganda Road Court.

Kampala, Uganda — Police have arrested two young men suspected of operating fraudulent social media accounts impersonating Ugandan businessman Dr. Hamis Kiggundu and investor Haji Yasin Ssentongo, allegedly using the platforms to solicit money from unsuspecting members of the public.

The suspects have been identified as Isabirye Umar, 20, and Matende Isa, 23. Authorities say the two were apprehended following investigations into several accounts on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook that allegedly posed as the two businessmen while advertising job opportunities and other offers requiring payment of subscription or registration fees.

Investigators say the suspects are expected to be arraigned later today at Buganda Road Court in Kampala as inquiries into the alleged online fraud scheme continue.

The arrests are part of what authorities describe as a recurring pattern of impersonation cases targeting prominent public figures online. Observers note that this is the sixth reported incident involving individuals accused of impersonating Dr. Hamis Kiggundu and Haji Yasin Ssentongo on social media.

Previous incidents have similarly involved young suspects, often originating from Iganga District, raising concerns among investigators about organized or copycat online fraud schemes.

Authorities have repeatedly urged the public to verify official social media accounts and avoid sending money to individuals claiming to offer employment opportunities or financial programs through unofficial online channels.

Police say further details are expected after the suspects appear in court.
