Fresh clues have surfaced in the investigation of the murder of a prominent Luweero businessman, Mr. John Luwagga, pointing towards a significant breakthrough. The crime is now believed to be linked to a soldier from the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), as new evidence emerged connecting the suspect to the victim’s vehicle. Luwagga was tragically gunned down on Sunday, July 16.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the prime suspect, identified as Mr. Denis Okello, a UPDF soldier stationed at the Peace Operations and Training Centre Singo in Nakaseke District, was apprehended after being found in possession of the vehicle belonging to the slain businessman. The vehicle, registered under the number UBL 820S, was tracked down hours after the heinous act.
Further progress in the case came with the discovery that the spent cartridges retrieved from the suspect matched the bullets recovered from the crime scene. While additional suspects involved in the murder are still at large, the identification of the killer’s firearm and the recovery of the victim’s car represent significant breakthroughs in the ongoing investigation, according to a trusted security source.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that Luwagga may have been lured into a trap set by the culprits. The victim’s wife, Ms. Margaret Wanyana, recounted that her husband left their residence around 8:30 PM on Sunday. Tragically, she later received the devastating news of his untimely demise due to a fatal gunshot wound.
As the investigation continues, authorities are determined to bring all the remaining suspects to justice. The recent developments have provided a glimmer of hope for Luwagga’s grieving family and the community as they seek closure and the truth behind this senseless act of violence.
