The Karamoja Affairs Minister, Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu, is at risk of being arrested for failing to attend several meetings with the Presidential Affairs Committee that is investigating a scandal in which she is accused of diverting iron sheets.
The Committee has the power to order the arrest or confinement of uncooperative witnesses or cite them for contempt of Parliament under rule 208 of Parliament’s rules of procedure.
The Committee’s Chairperson, Hon. Jessica Ababiku, has given Dr. Kitutu until tomorrow to physically attend the interrogation or face an arrest order.
Hon. Ababiku has stated that the Committee is in the final stages of drafting its report and is currently interrogating eight cabinet Ministers.
Some cabinet Ministers have distanced themselves from the scandal, with State Minister for Defence Jacob Oboth Oboth even threatening to sue Dr. Kitutu for damaging his reputation.
