‘The people will decide,’ Mabike vows as he insists to contest as an independent

Former Makindye West Member of Parliament Michael Mabike has insisted he will not seek further endorsement from his party the National Unity Platform (NUP) but will take the test to the people to make their choice in the forthcoming general elections as an independent candidate.

Mabike made the statements today, saying he was dissatisfied with the entire vetting process that awarded the NUP ticket to a Derrick Nyeko who he claims is an “NRM Candidate”.

“I am a prison graduate of Arua with Bobi Wine and I contested with an NRM councilor. Even he has the card for NUP now, the record remain he was with NRM. It is therefore not possible that this NRM member can beat me yet I have been in opposition in Makindye all these years,” Mabike claimed.

However, Mabike said he will take Bobi Wine’s example who while starting his political career knocked on a number of political parties’ doors before deciding to seek the will of the people.

“The ticket does not guarantee that you will win, you must go back to the people to get the ticket and final stand. I do not have any more time on me, it’s the people with the ticket and I will go to the people and ask for their ticket,” he confirmed.

Meanwhile, earlier, NUP asked Mabike to stop misleading the public by feeding them with wrong information about the party vetting process.

The party was responding to allegations that Mabike has continually made in which he claims the process of vetting is marred with corruption and bribery.

Mabike follows Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante who declared would be running on the independent ticket after he was snubbed in favor of Abubaker Kawalya.

Kasibante also claimed that Kawalya was an NRM mole, a devil, and an intruder.

In Nakawa West, former DP spokesperson Kenneth Paul Kakande after losing to Ssenyonyi disagreed with the vetting process and insisted he would petition and then run as an independent candidate respectively.
