Transport fare hike due to increased fuel prices.

Kampala, Uganda| Following the increased costs of operation including the escalating fuel prices while complying to 50% capacity COVID 19 restrictions, Bus operators have reviewed bus fares to match the input.

In a letter dated 1st December 2021 and signed by Solomon Nsimire the acting Chairman United Bus Owners association limited (UBOA), the change in transport fares will be effected on 2nd December 2021.

Uganda’s fuel prices are the highest in East Africa at Ugx 4,590 per litre followed by Burundi’s Shs 4,290. Tanzania has the lowest price of Shs 3,780 per litre, Rwanda Shs4,060, and Kenya, Shs4,180.

Crude oil prices have been rising fast for the past eight months following the opening of most economies from the COVID-19 lockdown.

Fuel demand shot up fast with limited production and although regular oil production has started, there is still a gap to cover.
