The Commander of the Alert Squad in the Uganda Police, ACP Ashraf Chemonges, has been detained by police for allegedly leaking information regarding the arrest of Speaker Anitah Among over the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.
In a video, Chemonges claimed that the Special Forces Command (SFC) was planning to arrest Among as part of investigations into the diversion of iron sheets intended for Karamoja.
Among returned the iron sheets after learning of her impending arrest, which caused her to become restless and delegate her duties to her Deputy.
The news of her potential arrest came amid arrests of ministers over the mismanagement of relief items intended for the Karamoja region. Chemonges reportedly informed Among’s office of her imminent arrest and told several people that Among would be arrested by the SFC on the president’s orders.
The police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
