Although, the government has set up schools in each of the sub-counties apart from Lwajje which has none. The sub-counties have several other scattered small islands attached to them, but the children are struggling to access schools.
Children living on islands in Buvuma district have resorted to fishing due to lack of schools in the area.
The islands include Lyabaana, Lwajje, Bweema, Lubya and Bugaya.

URN reporter saw children in Lubya Sub County struggling to cross the islands to access Kyanja primary school.
The district has four secondary schools at the main island which include Buvuma college, St Mary’s SS, Lingila Living Hope SS and Buvuma Seed School. However few or even no children from the scattered islands enroll for senior one.
The headteacher of Buvuma College School Musisi Kakomo says that they have enrolled about 35 students from the scattered islands but it is only the few who can afford to study in boarding section that complete Senior Four. On average each scattered sub-county has a population of over 7,000 people.
Suleiman Wambula a parent at Lwajje Sub County says that they would to see their children study, but they face challenges of accessing schools that are across the islands.

Another parent Rose Nakityo appeals to the government to construct schools since their earnings are too low.

The LCV Chairperson Alex Mabiriizi notes that they have informed the Ministry of Education, who has promised to solve the problem.
